So, at a minimum, something like an ASUS Z170-A with a Skylake 6700K and at least a 4GB GTX960 or above (because of the 4K editing). Depending on the balance of online and offline video editing that you expect to do, a video editing config can cost a lot of money, I suggested the following references recently in response to another video editing question: Adobe Premiere, if that is what you are using for 4K video editing, will use up all the threads you can throw at it (so yes, I7) and as many CUDA cores as you can find (so yes, discrete GP). The Develop module in LR is lightly threaded. In your case that would be the 4K video editing. One approach would be to find the MB/CPU/GPU combination that best handles your most demanding application. Note: I'm buying the motherboard and cpu, not a built system in a case. So who are the experts here and what do you suggest for this poor soul? From what i understand the i7 on board video is not good. I want something that performs fantastic in real life and for my application. I don't want people to start telling me to buy an i7 just because is "the newest" processor out there. if i have to buy one then fine, but I prefer not to. I currently don't have an external video card and I would like to keep it like that, if possible. I am thinking of upgrading my system and I have no clue what is the bestbang for the buck system and I would like something that will be useful for another decade.ĪMD or INTEL? I don't care about the brand, I just want something lightning fast that is not going to cost me an arm and a leg.
#Is an 8320 good for 1080 video editing upgrade
i did upgrade my hard drive to a SSD drive. I have an i3 550 dell inspiron that I bought about 7 years ago or so. I already tried optimizing my system and Lightroom as well but there is not much going on there.

When I import/export my photos in lightroom it takes for ever as well. The other day she was converting the video to a standard resolution and it took about half day to process.

I mainly do photo editing but my wife is getting into 4K video.
